A Kindred Spirit

What is a Kindred Spirit?

Anne of Green Gables seemed to know.  If you have read her books, you know what I mean.

But I think we all know.  It is a person - who we relate to on a deep level.  They may not have much in common with us, if you are looking at the outward appearance. 

It's that inner life.  A product of the soul.  A worldess look, a simple gesture tells us we have a connection.  We may be different ages, we may be just the same.  The world will tell us we are not alike - but a nod - a glance - a heartfelt laugh tells us something different.  We see the world through the same glasses.  Our hearts beat as one.

I am blessed to have a few.  Some of them are my children.  But some aren't.  There is no blood tie that binds.  There is just the soul connection.

  To seek divinity merely in books and writings is to seek the living among the dead;

We do in vain many times seek God in these, where His truth too often is not so much enshrined but entombed. 

He is best discerned by a touch from Him.  We must "see with our eyes, and hear with our ears and our hands must handle of the word of life". 

Nothing can take the place of the touch of God in the soul and the sense of Someone there.

Whatever else it embraces, true Christian experience must always include a genuine encounter with God.
